Anand Mahindra was born on May 1, 1955, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, into a prominent business family. He is the child of the late Harish Mahindra and Indira Mahindra. In 1977, he completed his undergraduate education at Harvard College in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he was a member of the Phoenix S.K. Club.

In 1981, he earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from Harvard Business School in Boston, Massachusetts.
