He was a two-time All-State selection in football and helped lead his team to a state championship in 1991. After high school, George attended Ohio State University, where he played football for the Buckeyes.
He was a two-time consensus All-American and won the 1995 Heisman Trophy, which is awarded to the best player in college football each year. After his successful college career, he entered the 1996 NFL Draft, where he was selected in the first round by the Houston Oilers.
