But Fieri’s culinary career began even earlier, when he was a very young boy, manning a roadside “Awesome Pretzel” cart. He later earned a degree in business administration from Stanford University. He first secured a restaurant job at Parker’s Lighthouse in Long Beach, where he was hired as manager.
After proving his skills, he managed six Louise’s Trattoria restaurants in Los Angeles. Fieri has opened his own restaurants a number of times. In 1996 he opened a place called Johnny Garlics with Steve Gruber in Santa Rosa, California.

In 2012, he opened a New York City restaurant called Guy’s American Kitchen and Bar. Although it was a popular restaurant based on Fieri’s personal brand, the restaurant was also the focus of one of the most infamous restaurant reviews ever written by Pete Wells of The New York Times. Ultimately, the restaurant closed in 2017.
The menus in Fieri’s subsequent restaurants have been more successful, including Guy’s Burger Joint, located on Carnival cruise ships, Guy Fieri’s Vegas Kitchen & Bar in Las Vegas, and Guy Fieri’s Baltimore Kitchen & Bar at the Horseshoe Casino in Baltimore. Several months later, in 2018, Fieri launched Chicken Guy! at Disney Springs in Orlando, Florida, in collaboration with Robert Earl (the man behind the Planet Hollywood franchise).
