During his time at school, Jimmy Fallon was an altar boy at St. Mary of the Snow, a Roman Catholic school in Brooklyn, New York. For a time, he considered becoming a priest. Listening to the Dr. Demento show on the radio, Fallon grew out of his religious ambition as he became more interested in comedy. Like many teenagers, Fallon was obsessed with SNL. In his four years at Saugerties High School, he participated in most of the school’s stage productions. He and his sister performed sketches from the show for their parents and friends. A 1992 graduate of Saugerties High School, Fallon continued his education at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York, performing stand-up comedy on weekends. He left college one semester before graduating in 1995 to move to Los Angeles to pursue stand-up comedy full-time.
The Groundlings improv group in Los Angeles led Jimmy to start practicing his standup act. He performed at the legendary Improv often, earning $7.50 per set, which not even cover the parking fee. The actor attempted to audition for Saturday Night Live for the first time in 1997, but he was rejected. Fallon successfully auditioned for SNL on his second attempt at 23. SNL auditions are notoriously difficult and intimidating. Lorne Michaels, who created the show, rarely laughs during auditions, according to Fallon. He appeared on stage and did well. He performed an impression of Jerry Seinfeld. He became the show’s most featured impressionist during the 19981999 seasons, Michaels laughed. The first time Fallon appeared on SNL, he thought he would spend three years following in John Belushi’s footsteps. However, he stayed after taking over the Weekend Update in 2000 alongside Tina Fey. He appeared as Barry Gibb and Robin Gibb in “The Barry Gibb Talk Show” with Justin Timberlake. This marked the beginning of a long-standing friendship and collaboration with Timberlake, and Fallon remained a cast member of SNL until 2004. Fans have called him the best SNL cast member since Phil Hartman, and he hosted the 2002 MTV Video Music Awards. In his opening monologue, Fallon parodied Avril Lavigne, The White Stripes, Enrique Iglesias, and Dave Matthews. Following the end of SNL, Jimmy embarked on an acting career, appearing in movies including Fever Pitch, Factory Girl, Ted 2, Jem and the Holograms, iCarly, 30 Rock, Family Guy, Taxi, and Whip It.
Jimmy Fallon assumed the hostship of Late Night with Conan O’Brien in 2009, and the show later became Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Jimmy was named the host of The Tonight Show in April 2013.After the Winter Olympics in 2014. Fallon took over The Tonight Show from Jay Leno. He is the first host in the history of The Tonight Show (with the exception of original host Steve Allen) who has never served as a “Guest Host.”
