Birth, Education, and Early Life

In Secunderabad, India, on August 3, 1984, KB Chhetri, the father, and Sushila Chhetri, the mother, gave birth to Sunil Chhetri. His mother, along with her twin sister, was a player for the Nepal Women’s National Team, as was his father, a retired officer of the EME Corps of the Indian Army.

Sunil graduated from Asutosh College in Kolkata after attending Bahai School in Sikkim. Bandana Chhetri is the name of his sister. His family’s financial struggles during his formative years made it difficult for him to pursue his aspirations.

Football Career

After playing for City FC in New Delhi, he started his football career with the Mohun Bagan Athletic Club in the National Football League. He scored four goals in his rookie campaign in 2002-03, which helped the squad finish seventh in the league rankings.

Chhetri was only able to score two goals in the next 2003–04 season as the team finished in ninth place overall. He scored two more goals in his final campaign with Mohun Bagan, and the team finished eighth overall.
